SAN ANTONIO (Nov. 21, 2023) – Hero Hut established the Taylor Force Memorial “Force for Good” Scholarship, one of several pillars of the Hero Hut - Defined by Service Fund, in honor of the service and sacrifice of fallen U.S. Army soldier Taylor Force.
Force was tragically killed in 2016 during a school-sponsored trip from Vanderbilt University, where graduate students were sent to learn about startup companies overseas. Force attended high school at the New Mexico Military Institute, graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 2009, and served five years as an active duty officer from 2009 to 2014. He was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, and deployed to Afghanistan to support Operation Enduring Freedom and Iraq to support Operation New Dawn.
“Taylor was such a positive, friendly, uplifting force in the world,” said Kristen Force Boswell, vice president of events for Hero Hut and sister to Force. “This scholarship is important to the Force family because it feels like an opportunity to keep sharing Taylor's goodwill and warmth with the world.”
Scholarship applicants should be veterans seeking to apply for higher education or a trade/certification. For more detailed application criteria and to apply, visit www.herohut.org/scholarships. “My family and Hero Hut would love to see someone well-rounded, engaged, and community-minded receive the scholarship. [Taylor] won't have the chance to meet the person who is the recipient of the scholarship. Still, hopefully, in awarding this scholarship, our family can continue to share his positivity with the world,” said Boswell.
Hero Hut intends to award the first recipient at the Alamo Bowl on Dec. 28, 2023, one of the most significant single-day Hero Hut events. The Hero Hut Military & First Responders Club will be located outside of Section 348 and is free for all ticketed military, veterans, first responders, and their families. The space will include a full-service cash bar, concessions, and various military and veteran support organizations. In addition, Hero Hut will host a tailgate open to active-duty military, veterans, first responders, and their families ahead of kickoff for this year’s game. “We hope to give many more scholarships at Hero Huts across the nation in the coming years, all while paying respect to those that continue to serve their communities,” said David Hoffmaster, founder of Hero Hut.
